This week will be a little different... For the next 5 days I'm going to be sharing with you the story of how I accomplished each milestone in my business. We're going to be kicking off with the first step, I'm going to dive into offers, strategies, struggles and what I'd do differently now. These will be pretty long so... get caffeinated and let's go. $0 - $10k a month: Key info:
The magical number that every new entrepreneur believes will change everything for them... Don't let the clowns on X tell you it won't change everything for you... because it will. But not as much financially as you think. It changes everything because it's the first REAL confirmation you have that this is a real business, not a hobby. Yeah the first sale is cool, but you can luck your way into that, like I did. But once you have $10k in a single month worth of proof, you're ready to grow this thing. My first $10k month in business actually turned out to be my first $10k day. Two of my agency clients paid on the exact same day, which lead to $13k being deposited into our account. I remember it like yesterday I thought I was rich, I was in line at a Mexican Fast food spot. I had to check my account because I was worried there wasn't enough in there to buy my girlfriend (now wife) dinner. So I did the only thing I knew to do with money... extra guac. I felt like a king. Anyway enough of that let's get into how it happened. I was running a digital marketing agency, which later turned into just a pure FB ads agency. When I signed those 2 clients my brother and I were making websites. Even though we weren't very skilled we had enough conviction to sell websites. And funnily enough one both of those clients still use the sites we built and one of them is in the top 10 most trafficked website in the state. Let's dive into specifics. When starting out, the biggest issue is... you don't know what you don't know. And if you graduated high school, or even went on and graduated college, or even if you had a job... the feeling of not knowing what you don't know is foreign. Because your whole life up until this point has been dictated and scheduled for you. You go to school, get homework, complete it, do the tests, show up to work get tasks, complete tasks etc. Now you wake up and think what the F*ck do I do today. Most crumble with this feeling. Honestly, I did for a little to. I knew I wanted to work hard and I knew I could work hard... but on what. So I did something that had worked before... I threw a whole bunch of sh*t at the wall to see what would stick. I messaged every single friend, family member and distant FB friend I had. I told them what I was doing and if they knew anyone in need. My good friend at the time said: "yeah I do" and he connected me with his Dad, who knew someone who knew someone. Then my Mum was working at a random company and was close with the owners, the owners saw my post on FB and asked if we could help... so we did. Some people will say "oh lucky for you" and yeah maybe. But I made my luck by knocking down F*cking doors. Just like you and everyone else can to. Once we crossed $10k in a single month in our agency, we NEVER went back below that mark again. We eventually took the thing up to $50k/mo. and in an effort to sign more clients we started a FB group called: "Digital Marketing Beasts" (yes so professional). The funny thing is we signed maybe one client from that group but had 100 people ask us how the hell we built an agency so quickly. Not knowing coaching was a thing we made a 6 week program for a few hundred bucks and sold it to 12 people. We then upped the price the next month and sold 10 spots at $1k a piece. Thus hitting our first $10k month in coaching. We kept both going for a while, then pivoted to just coaching because it was much much more fulfilling. We actually still run the agency and manage half a mill in ad spend a month, sometimes more sometimes less. Now what would I do differently now?
Yeah it sounds like coach speak, but hiring early is almost more important than hiring when you're trying to scale. Yeah it's a big investment, yeah it's tough to make it work. But we got stuck below $20k a month for a while because I didn't know what to do next. I love telling the $0-$10k/mo. story, it reminds me of a simpler time. And it reminds me how fun business can be when you're chasing something you think is impossible. If you're in this stage, keep pushing, hire before you're ready, throw stuff at the wall and focus on one thing. Tomorrow we're going to go deeper into tactics and explore the $10-$30k/mo range, where throwing stuff at the wall isn't going to help. If you're in this stage, the best place we can help you is in "Client Accelerator" - one client basically pays for the fee to join, it's simple, it's accelerated and it'll help you get over that $10k hurdle ASAP. if you want the details reply "accelerator" and let's chat... Your offer doesn't suck, but this is the problem... Ask yourself, when was the last time you bought from someone who COLD DM'd you? Maybe never, maybe once or twice, but it's rare... so why do people keep doing it? There's a whole thing on the law of large numbers here, but let's not get into that today. People Cold DM with the hopes that they some how stumble upon the 3% of people in the market who are ready to buy. Cold DMs are actually less about what you say and more about timing. I...
"You don't need an audience bro, you just gotta sell stuff bro" -- Some guy on X, who probably has a big audience Papa Fox is here to show you a different, a better and a simpler way to generate sales without the big audience, and without having to fork out a kings ransom on ads... oh without sending: "Are you opposed to me sending over a case study?" My Wife tells me often: "Honey, size doesn't matter" Which is weird, because she has no idea about the digital marketing space, yet some how...
